When tooth wear is widespread and impacts the majority of teeth, employing a Dahl restoration for differential mobility is not suitable. Seldom is the distribution of tooth wear in these more extreme situations limited to a single arch or quadrant. A mixed result is frequently observed, with less worn teeth in one arch and some highly worn teeth in the other. The goal of mouth restoration should be to make worn teeth taller while, if feasible, leaving less badly worn teeth unrepaired. The work-up required for the Dahl appliance and the restoration of a dentition with more restorations are comparable in process. Treatment planning is made possible by the use of upper and lower study casts put on a semi-adjustable articulator with a retruded contact position interocclusal record.
